Prince Memorabilia Sells For Well Above Estimated Prices At Auction
NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) Julien’s Auctions sold off a collection of Prince memorabilia in New York Friday and the sales climbed well above the estimated pricing.
A doll, featured as a prop in Purple Rain, sold for $12,500, well above the estimated range of $2,000 to $4,000, according to Rolling Stone. The most noteworthy item, Prince’s custom-made yellow “cloud” guitar, was expected to sell between $60,000 and $80,000 and went for $225,000. Prince’s wardrobe from the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards, estimated to sell for around $30,000, sold for more than $108,000, according to Rolling Stone.
There were 158 items overall, with a few items withdrawn at the last minute. A raspberry beret sold for $1,750, and an outfit worn in the movie “Under the Cherry Moon” sold for $40,000.”
