Elevated levels of E. coli found at Sandy Point
Elevated levels of E. coli have been found in the swimming pond at Sandy Point, according to aLucky Peak State Park Facebook post. Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) advises people to keep out of the water.
The advisory will likely remain in effect over the coming weeks as the Park continues an additional series of tests. The Park will inform everyone once the advisory is lifted, along with other changes or recommendations from DEQ.
"Again, we can't be certain why this is happening so early in the season, but it is possible it continues to stem from the high-water levels of the river not allowing the pond water to flow properly and get adequate circulation," the Facebook post says. "We truly apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding."
