NASHVILLE (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Grammy Award winning bass player, Chris Kent, died on October 19, 2011 after a long battle with cancer.

Kent was a seasoned veteran of the stage and studio. He performed or recorded with a variety of country, rock, jazz and Christian music acts.

Chris Kent has performed alongside Lorrie Morgan, Steve Lukather, Larry Carlton, Kirk Whalum and numerous others, and has shared the stage with the legendary Stevie Wonder. Chris has made television appearances on the "Tonight Show," "Live From the House of Blues" and "Jazz Central" (BET).

Lorrie Morgan organized a benefit for Kent in 2009 that featured performances from Vince Gill, Joe Diffie and Tracy Lawrence.

In addition to playing bass, Kent was an avid cook. His friend Bobbi Faye Miller published a cookbook featuring some of the bass player's favorite recipes. All proceeds will benefit the Kent family.

In the "About Chris" section of his Facebook page, he offered one simple idea — "The money is between the first and fifth fret."

Kent is survived by his wife Lisa and their two children.
